Someone on the board was leaking inside info to the press last year about HP board activities. HP hired PI's to get to the bottom of it. The PI's used wiretapping and "pretexting" to get phone records of board members and reporters. The leaker was outed and resigned. Another board member or two also resigned.

When the investigation methods were disclosed, HP counsels, CEO and others were called to testify before congress. The CEO, Patricia Dunn, has since resigned. A whole bunch of the PI's took the 5th before congress. The chief counsel has resigned. Now the Justice dept says 5 execs including the former CEO will be indicted for using illegal methods to track the leaks.
