What is really going on now, underneath the partisan politics, is that this standard is being attacked. The standard that young adults should be protected from adult predators was espoused by Mr. Foley in public and flaunted in private. This delights the foes of this standard because they believe that blatant hypocrisy doesn't taint the perp, it taints the standard. They gleefully point out that Foley was secretly one of them all along. And this is further proof to them that secretly everyone thinks this standard is an absurd relic of a dead, not lamented culture.
