I heard Hastert on Laura Ingraham's radio show today and he tried the old: "The democrats set us up...somebody had these IM's and we need to know who and why" defense. To her credit, Laura just shot him down. She pointed out that trying to claim a vast left-wing conspiracy was as bad as the democrats claiming there was a vast right-wing conspiracy. She kept trying to drag Hastert back to the real issues involving Foley, rather than what the dems did. Good for her. The only way for the republicans to get his behind them is to admit some errors in oversight, clean out the stables and move forward. Blaming the "other guy" is rarely effective.
