>>The repub approach has been to create a magnet front to draw out the enemy and meet them on a battle field of our terms. The dem strategy is to go to where they are and deal with them on a different format.

We have seen what the repub admin meant by their stategy, we haven't seen the dem operation. Personally, I could use some more operationalized clarity on what the dems are proposing, prior to either endorsing or rejecting it.<<

The "magnet" strategy clearly doesn't work. The attacks in England and Spain, among other things, show that. One reason for this is the fact that terrorists are not one group with one agenda. Bush's attempts to oversimplify the situation and to claim that Iraq is the central front in the war on terrorism are at best misguided, and at worst dishonest. What's happening in Iraq is a lot of sectarian violence, and some attacks on forces which the attackers perceive to be invaders. The fact that the perpetrators of these kinds of attacks use terrorist tactics a lot of the time doesn't mean that the magnet strategy is working.

Another reason it won't work is that the people who do run Al Qaeda aren't stupid enough to be drawn into a conflict in the place where their enemy is the strongest. Their whole strategy is to attack by surprise at points of weakness.

Meanwhile, the Democrats have been calling for implementation of the 9/11 Commission's recommendations, which the Bush administration has chosen largely to ignore. I will admit that the Demos haven't been extremely clear about this. They've been calling for reorganizing our anti-terrorism efforts and resources to deal effectively with the issue, instead of becoming distracted by large-scale military efforts that are very expensive in a number of ways, and actually counter-productive.

To me, the difference is clear, and the choice is clear.
