Last September was impacted by Katrina but it's fairly immaterial to the national chains. For example, Nordstrom reported Sept. 05 comp store sales gains of 4.7% and reported Sept. 06 comp store sales gains of 13.4%. Their Sept. 05 sales were about 200 basis points lower than the year to date figure. Skipping over September 05 and comparing Sept. 06 to Sept. 04 (2 year comp), Nordstrom's comp store sales were up 19%. This is exceptionally strong.

Nordstrom is not alone. Target, Kohls, Penneys, Abercrombie, American Eagle, Gymboree, etc all had exceptional months.
