I need to clear up some factual errors in this ludicrous post.
As one responder surmised, there are very few people of Pakistani descent living in Vancouver. We have a large population of South Asian origin, but the vast majority of them are Sikhs who trace their ancestry back to rural Punjabi villages. The next largest group are Indians, mostly Hindu, the majority of whom arrived in Canada via Fiji or the Caribbean. (BTW, the vast majority of people of South Asian ancestry living in Vancouver are not immigrants, but third to fith-generation Canadians.)
"Drive down any street in East Vancouver and you can hear gunfire at night."
This is absolute garbage. I spend a lot of time in East Vancouver, in fact I live only a few blocks away so could hear any gunshots, and neither myself nor a single one of my many friends who live in East Vancouver has EVER heard a gunshot. The gang violence referred to almost alwasy happens out in the farflung suburbs miles away from East Vancouver.
"All across Canada South Asian and South East Asians are ruining our country with violence."
This is also garbage. Yes, there are some ethnically-based gangs in Canada, but most of them are non-racial. And the problems we have with gun violence derive primarily that we share long border with a gun-crazed nation. Almost all the urban gun violence is carried out with guns smuggled in from the US, and would never occur if the border wasn't there.
In Vancouver we certainly do have a problem with young men of Punjabi ancestry getting murdered, but they are not immigrants, mostly 2nd and 3rd generation kids who have been excluded from mainstream society for a variety of complex reasons only lightly touched on in the articles RE posted, both clearly carefully chosen for their ideological biases.
And this violence almost never reaches outside the gang. Almost no one not directly involved in their criminal enterprises has ever been hurt. RE is in a lot more danger from the lousy Vancouver drivers than imaginary gunshots!
As to the so-called threat by another poster, that was supposedly me. Let me post the exact words I used. They were typed in a PM in response to RE getting upset over me objecting to him using the racist epithet "paki" in a post, disingenuously claiming it's as benign as "yankee" or "canuck".
"Wake up, Ralph, we're in the 21st Century!!
Ralph, I repeat, my girlfriend's family is from Pakistan. You want to come over to my house and call her a "Paki"? Although I am a very peaceable sort, other than with words, she's going to tear a strip off you that leaves you gasping. And you'd better make sure one of her brothers isn't there or you're going to be in big trouble.
Throwing racist epithets around while hiding behind BB anonymity is the worst form of cowardice. "
And he got himself banned not because of anything I did or said but because he started abusing the moderator of the forum on which he made the offensive post.
So I recommend you all ignore the nonsense promulgated by this particular poster. He seems too caught up in his own psychological dramas to understand the world around him.
