In addition, FM-5 is both compatible with the existing constellation yet designed with newer, more efficient transmissions that will augment total capacity and thus additional audio channels, plus next generation data and video services. Mr. Orbital Mechanics, can you please explain to us neophytes exactly what this phrase means that could be the "real reason"? Does Sirius have some spectrum we don't know about? Are their current satellites not bent pipes, simply retransmitting whatever it is they receive? How will this new satellite "augment" capacity? Details please. Since you are the "orbital mechanics expert".
