"So you think that China is supporting NK's nuclear ambitions because they have been along term client state? Things are seldom that uncomplicated. I still think that the idea that NK makes China's bad behavior look pale is a partial contributor to their support."

Historic affiliation is spurious, but acting as a foil isn't?

I seem to have missed the connection between the link about Hong Kong and the topic of China/N.Korea?

Since the 1940s, China and N Korea have had a lot of ties, geographic, demographic, and political. They were soulmates through then Korean War and on into the Mao Revolution. It's only in recent years, say a decade and a half, that China has began to throw off the shackles of strict Marxism and struck its own path towards growth. If they could go back in time and have a 'do over,' the "Kim Korea" would have withered right after the Korean War, and there would be no North and South Koreas. There would be one Korea. But, there are no 'do overs.'

China is saddled with N Korea, just as the US is with Israel.
