I do think there has been a distinction in this country between men sleeping with young women, versus men sleeping with young men. Because of the strange puritanical anti- homophobic bedrock in the US, that kind of hypocrisy is understandable, but still unpalatable- especially to a mother of daughters. I don't want my daughters preyed upon when they are under 18 any more than I want my son to be a target.

It's funny that so many people celebrate our "Western tradition", and yet they seem to have no idea that that tradition starting with the Greeks and Romans celebrated the idea of male love for men and boys, and even esteemed it as the ideal. We are a conflicted and prudish society, and it's too bad, because if we could talk honestly about these things we could acknowledge that men are visual, and they are horn dogs, and evolution made them that way so they would have the most progeny, just as it makes men covet the young- because youth is tied up in fertility. And whether men are gay or straight (or in between- as many people are), they are much more concerned with visuals and youth than women are- women are attracted primarily to resources- and we all know why that is. We can acknowledge that men have these urges, without giving men the "ok" to act on them.
