Call me an optimist, but EVENTS and their own policies, not the Dems, are making Rove play defense - a side he doesn't play well. I think Iraq, the deficit, the arrogance of the chimp Nero are ALL in the back of every one's mind, and haven't disappeared. The insurgency/civil war in Iraq hasn't disappeared, and Rove has absolutely no control over that.
I LOVE this scandal, because it goes right at Rove's strength, the Bible-thumping Christian conservative "value voter" churches in his rolodex that man the phone banks and get their entire congregation out to vote as a mindless block.
I think it's pretty obvious to most Americans that the Republicans can't be trusted with total control. But your right, we haven't SEEN Rove's "October Surprise". Perhaps it's been round filed by current events? Or, perhaps it's still to come?
Let's not forget, with it's secrecy, cronyism and tendency toward dictatorship, this administration just can't AFFORD to lose control of even ONE house of congress. |
