New Virtual Reality HMD With Color 640x480 Display Will Retail For Under $3,500 MSRP
(LOS ANGELES, E3)-FORTE Technologies, the industry leader in the development and marketing of interactive virtual reality (VR) peripherals, has announced a technological breakthrough in the development of affordable virtual reality head-mounted displays (HMD). FORTE, in conjunction with Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), will develop color 640x480 high-resolution HMDs for professional arcade, commercial and business application markets. This announcement marks an industry first in the development of affordable professional and commercial high-resolution virtual reality peripherals. In addition, FORTE will custom build high-resolution VR devices using Kopin's advanced liquid crystal displays while incorporating new designs for the arcade market.

Retailing for approximately $3,500 (MSRP), FORTE's high-resolution HMD has added high-end displays and a new ergonomic design that will set the defining standard for VR peripherals within the industry. In addition, FORTE has incorporated the immersiveness and patented tracking technology that has made the VFX1 HEADGEAR the premier VR system available thus far. FORTE anticipates initial shipping of its high-resolution HMD to commence during the second half of 1996.
FORTE's high-resolution HMD will open new doors to the professional VR market with its ability to clearly read text applications. This will allow for VR ventures into business applications, presentations and VRML along with other professional applications. FORTE's high-resolution HMD also will work with existing products and software, and will be fully compatible with Windows 95. FORTE's Windows 95 compatibility is an industry first in the development of high-end VR peripherals.
FORTE has incorporated a completely immersive PC-based device using custom designed high-resolution, color 640x480 displays; patented, quick response head-tracking; and adjustable earphones. The headset also will feature a new light weight design using the same weight distribution philosophy which is currently incorporated into the VFX1 HEADGEAR.
