We need a tax expert on this thread who could compute the monthly cash flow for these Florida investors after deductions for mortgage interest, condo fees, depreciation, and whatever.

Their negative cash flow might not be any worse than a car payment if they only have one condo and can find a renter. If an investor can't get a renter and officially turn the place into a rental, he truly is cooked. An even bigger problem if he owns multiple properties in this situation. Yikes.
