Teddy and his ilk are so out of touch that they think government supervision is beneficial. They look at China's heavy handed "taming" of the internet and fanaticize about doing it here too.

They don't realize that Chinese never experienced freedom, so any incremental improvements (or the illusion of them) increase satisfaction.
