Ben Bernacke taking a multi-generational view and advocating increased savings rates.

I saw part of this on TV, and it was clear, cogent, and well prepared. Seemed more like a summary policy already decided instead of one person's opinion.

This may be a view into what post-Bush policy will look like:

Sober, reality based, having a longer time frame, and very aware of all costs and trade-offs. No magic bullets or magical thinking.

No promises of "No Child Left Behind", "Energy Independence" or other fantasies.

Two things to note -

1) Investing abroad proposed as one solution.

2) Footnote stating that the savings rate does not include capital gains. The foot note goes on to talk about housing prices, sliding past the BIG POINT - the real savings rate is much higher than reported.
