"Do you think there's a technical reason preventing AM2 from being used in multisocket systems? Or is it just a positioning thingy?" As long as there are sufficient pins, I can't see any reason why AM2 couldn't be used. I think it is a tactical mistake that AM2 isn't used for 4x4.
