"When it comes to representatives, I want them to be ETHICAL (when it comes to handling the business and finances of the people they represent) and COMPETENT (in their handling of the business and finances of the people they represent).

What do you use as a guide? It seems pretty simple to me. The job of a representative is to represent our best interests in performing their duties in government. Their primary duties are related to the issues that drive and maintain our rule of law.

What they do in their private lives is a gray area and I'd have have to look at it on a case by case basis.

I would go even further and say that it is absolutely none of our business, up to the point where it interferes with their ability to perform their duties or the actual performance of their duty to represent our best interests at all times, without exception. When their personal lives (especially scandelous issues) become a public issue, their ability to represent our best interests is compromised.

This Foley business is good gossip but has nothing to do with the other representatives. When they weigh in to the smack down event and make it their business, they are not representing our best interests, IMO. If you consider the issue more important than having the representatives work on foriegn affairs issues, national budget, national security, resource management, proposed bills etc then maybe you disagree. Personally I think most average citizens are happy to gossip among themselves but are sickened to see our elected representatives doing the same thing when they could be focusing on committee work etc.

Best regards,
