Our Papilions, Caesar and Pixie, weigh between 6-7 pounds....CZ we really worry about when he's outside, because he is the lighter of the two, and compared to Pixie, the more compliant of the two. And that's saying something...being docile isn't exactly how one would think of CZ....
Pixie on the other hand, would be a fighting mouthful for one of those owls or other big birds...She's a scrapper from git-go....Yesterday, I called her, several times, then panicked because maybe she had dug under the fence (it's got chicken wire underneath, but ya' never know with her)....anyhow, I heard a funny faint bark from her, so followed it, and WOW! she had the biggest RAT I've seen....a BIG fat grey thing....who was on its side, but still alive. She was poking it with her foot....no blood on either of them....She was panting, heavily, and seemed to be pretty tickled with herself.
Danged if we can figure out where that thing came from, nor what happened....
When I told my hubby what was going on, he just busted out laughing....he thinks she really is a "cool lady" even if she is such a scrapper....
The breed evidently was bred to catch mice in the castles in Belgium in the 1600's, but they were mostly lap dogs for royalty (see the paintings)...She must have strong "mice catcher genes"
She looks so innocent, with her big ears and zigzag blaze on her head.... To be a Papilion, they all have to have a white blaze on their face, but hers is a zigzag.....LOLOL! Lightening quick she is...for sure! |
