Not a thing. Production problems on a single product don't say a thing, except an undiscovered defect was discovered the hard way.

The defective batteries were labeled "made in Japan," "made in China," and "made in Japan and China." (See the Dell recall notice.)

But back to your question about China vs Japanese quality: for items imported to the US, Japanese quality is generally much superior to Chinese quality. I suspect that quality difference is reflected in the higher price of Japanese exported goods.
