My wife and I flew on the Collings B-17 Nine-O-Nine in Juneau and I'll never forget a minute of it. It was worth every penny of the $700 it cost us.

I had three very extraordinary experiences during the flight.

1) I saw the setting sun (10 pm) from the radio shack looking backwards over the tail. Unbelievable.

2) I was in the bombardier's compartment when we flew over the Federal Building where I worked. Don't think I didn't imagine what it would be like to ...

3) I was right behind the pilot cockpit looking at the Mendenhall Glacier as we flew up the valley where I lived. Both pilots were taking pictures like mad. "Any time now, guys," I kept thinking. "It's OK to turn around now!" Finally they turned the thing around and we got a close up view of the glacier that was better than any I got from my bedroom window, or from the visitor center, for that matter. On the way back down the valley, I looked down at my house.

If I had the means, I'd buy a life membership in the Collings Foundation. It costs $5000 but you get free rides for life.
