John, something to think about. Not talking to your enemies is a way of negotiating. If you think about it, the US has almost no leverage over NK. The only leverage over them we do have is that they want to talk to us more than we want to talk to them. Not talking to them forces their neighbors to get engaged in the discussions. Afterall, why should we be the lead negotiator with NK? Don't Japan and South Korea have more to lose by a nuclear armed NK than we do?

Anyway, I believe the reason why NK wants to talk to us so badly is that their country is suffering horribly and Kim Jong Il is getting desperate. So what do we use as leverage when we talk to them? That's the big question.
