TeleCIS Wireless Announces WiMAX Industry's First 2x2 MIMO SoC
Tuesday October 10, 9:00 am ET

Company Delivers Lowest Powered Multi-Channel WiMAX ASIC in the World

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TeleCIS Wireless, Inc., a leading developer of WiMAX fixed, portable and mobile broadband wireless chips, today announced it has begun shipments of its industry leading 2x2 MIMO WiMAX SoC to customers after successful productization and interoperability testing with leading Base Station vendors.

The TCW 1620 is the only WiMAX ASIC on the market with dual receive and dual transmit support in a single ASIC. With this multi-channel architecture, TeleCIS Wireless delivers up to 15dB of additional performance as compared to other products currently on the market, delivering up to 2 1/2 times the range for self installed CPEs. The phenomenal performance is delivered while maintaining the lowest power consumption of any WiMAX chip on the market, under 300mw for the complete Baseband/MAC SoC operating with both channels.

This extended range coupled with the low power consumption enables portable USB devices and PC Cards based on WiMAX Fixed/Portable specifications. "We are excited to be working with our ODM partners to deliver low power, extended range WiMAX CPE products for indoor modems and PCMCIA cards for laptops. These new products will have a direct, positive impact on operators' bottom line around the globe," says Mike Hodges, CEO of TeleCIS Wireless.

TeleCIS Wireless will use this architectural foundation for its WiMAX Mobile product, the TCW 2720. WiMAX Mobile devices such as PDAs and mobile phones require performance and power consumption levels that can only be achieved with multi-antenna architectures. To meet these needs, TeleCIS Wireless' next generation WiMAX Mobile ASIC will incorporate 2x2 MIMO, Spatial Multiplexing, Diversity Combining and Beamforming, techniques that together will result in up to 15dB performance above the WiMAX Mobile specifications in addition to supporting interference rejection. This is achieved while keeping power consumption under 250mw.

The TCW 2720 will target WiMAX Mobile Wave 2 certification and is expected to be employed in small devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and Portable Multimedia Players where power and performance are the dominant requirements.
