Policy Management Key to High-Quality Video Conferencing over Wireless
DES PLAINES, IL and VICTORIA, BC, Oct. 10 /CNW/ - CableMatrix Technologies, a leading provider of Quality of Service (QoS) policy management solutions, and VCom Inc. (TSX: VCM - News; soon to be Vecima Networks), a leading designer and manufacturer of WiMAX base stations and associated transmission gear, will demonstrate the markets first Video Conferencing over WiMAX solution employing enhanced QoS and policy management control for end-to-end service quality. Targeting broadband service providers, Video Conferencing over WiMAX offers a viable path for penetrating low density subscriber areas and the commercial services market with high-quality voice and video offerings. The demonstration will take place at WiMAX World USA Conference & Exposition 2006 booth 109.
Powering the Video Conferencing over WiMAX demonstration are the CableMatrix On-Demand Service Platform (ODSP(TM)) integrated with the VCom VistaMAX 802.16-2004 based transmission gear. ODSP is an advanced, standards-based policy management platform for seamlessly delivering next-generation IP-based services such as SIP voice, streaming video, multi-player online gaming and video conferencing with dynamic QoS, on a per-session basis. The combined elements enable QoS-enhanced audio and video sessions over the standards-based WiMAX air interface.
"Video conferencing has become a favorite application among consumers and commercial enterprises; however, poor quality especially over wireless access has plagued the user experience," said Jay Malin, vice president of business development for CableMatrix. "By coupling our QoS and policy management platform with VCom's WiMAX gear, providers can differentiate offerings by guaranteeing a consistent level of service while providing a cost effective path for reaching new subscribers through wireless broadband."
YourLink Inc., a Canadian based broadband service provider and a subsidiary of VCom, is planning to incorporate QoS enhanced video conferencing into its current WiMAX service repertoire.
"WiMAX allows us to offer high-speed broadband to both traditional and untapped rural markets without having to deploy any terrestrial lines, a tremendous cost savings advantage," stated Robert Forget, director of wireless sales at VCom. "The CableMatrix policy management platform enhances offerings such as video conferencing by allowing us to dynamically manage available bandwidth resources guaranteeing our customers a level of unmatched service."
