HAR!!! They're called Canada and America!

Seriously, though, if the South had been allowed to seceed or if they'd won the war, it's very unlikely that North and South would have remained separate countries. What WOULD be different is how states would interact with the national government.

All of us. The Civil War set the stage for an omnipotent National Government which is still growing and amassing power onto itself. We don't have a "federal" government except in the name and in our imaginations.
