"It provides nothing but the opportunity to oppress those who are non-spiritual or of a different stripe of spiritualism."

The challenge was to consider freedom of religion (including different stripes of non-religion) in a broader light than is currently done. The core question is, how can persons be free to fully express their inner most values and principles while fully respecting those of everyone else. It may, of course, be do-able on an individual level but on a societal level it is hard to imagine. Oppression is one element that must be factored out of the idea, as oppression would be an incompatable and intolerable circumstance.

Lane3 asks, "What would it look like?"

So, its a beautiful thought but when we try to look at it in practical circumstances, it gets complicated very quickly...which makes it an interesting challenge.
