I just don't see that as the purpose at ALL of that particular monologue. Did you read or see the entire play? It's not championing anything but the reclamation of a word and owning it again. I read that the word vagina isn't allowed on talk shows- what if your child hears it and (gasp) wants to know what IT IS!! People kind of curl their toes around it. (I am one of them, being a good Catholic product of the 50s.)
When we had children, we vowed not to use euphemisms for body parts (didn't always succeed-heck, some of them are so darn funny). But being comfortable about your body and all its amazing parts is something we Americans aren't real good about. We're just not always honest and healthy in the way we deal with sex. In some ways, men had ownership of the words and the parts of the female body. I understand that this is really really hard for men to grasp- maybe impossible, judging by some of my exchanges on SI.
I hated the show, but I undertstand the motivation.
(does that make me a liberal or a conservative?)
