Oh hell.............we just installed one in our fireplace at Lake Tahoe.

We thought we'd be more environmentally friendly and save ourself a conversion later on................the Nevada county we own in has burn days now where wood burning isn't allowed.

We had to convert our fireplace due to the discovery of poorly constructed flumes. One condo unit burned from a fireplace that was used constantly so all of us had to make a choice which was mandated by the Fire Dept
1. rebuild with a new fireplace and flume
2. install a pellet stove
3. Board up the wall and remove everything.

Failure to comply will result in a red tag by the Fire Dept.

One of our neighbors is an environmental engineer from UC Davis and we talked to him about it. He claims it's only a matter of time before wood is outlawed at Tahoe so we inserted a pellet stove into the existing fireplace which is an old river stone fireplace with a hearth..........it's a gorgeous looking thing.

We are ticked off of course but what can you do.

We;ll be on someone's list for pellets. We bought our stove back in July............now there are no stoves available anywhere in the Tahoe area.

There are alot of ticked off people..............but we moved quickly so we are all set.

Actually, the city of Incline Village has increased the standards now so everyone who is on the waiting list has to spend another 1 to 3 k to remove the entire chimney..........................what a meeting it will be this Sat...............my husband is ready ! God help the board!
