Evangelicals vote for both Democrats and Republicans, as well as third parties, although they tend to vote more for Republicans these days since the Democrats have made support for abortion and the gay rights agenda a cornerstone of their platform.

Sure, they know that most Republican elites look down on them, but they also know that more Democrats from every echelon of that party look down on them.

Bill Clinton siphoned off a lot of Evangelical voters by running closer to the center than the Daily Kos, Move On, Democratic Underground types can tolerate.

George W. Bush, on the other hand, attends regular prayer groups with heavy hitters in the Evangelical circles. They know he is really serious about his religion. As you do, too, only you hate him for it.

Tucker Carlson moves in different circles, among libertarian Republicans, business owner Republicans, and country club Republicans. I would be surprised to see him in church, but I don't know for a fact whether he actually does go to church.
