What might have happened was that the plane had to turn around to avoid Lagraudia Airport in the face of brisk winds blowing back towards Manhattan and they were simply blown into the Manhattan skyline and could not regain control enough to avoid a building. Eyewitnesses said the plane was banking hard before it crashed.
