I have no idea what you think is significant. If I'd meant you, I would have said "you"- as I do at the bottom of this post, wrt your attempt to connect political speech against Mr. Bush's methods and the insurgency.

That was my opinion then, and it is my opinion now. I do not think Iraqis will be better off in the long term, and they are certainly not better off short term. The waste of their infrastructure and capital that has occurred is phenomenal - and isn't really discussed. But basically their political/governmental infrastructure was destroyed, and they won't be coming back from that any time soon. All the fraud and waste we are experiencing with Us funds, they are also experiencing. Not only that, but professionals have fled Iraq. I have written about this a couple of times, but finding doctors and dentists, and other professional Iraqis, is getting harder and harder. Those who can leave, leave- which is another extreme problem for the Iraqis- and a long term problem. Those folks aren't going to want to come back.
On top of this, we have the expanding civil war. The folks who die in that aren't going to see a long term benefit.
And you think political division here emboldened Shiites to execute Sunnis and Sunnis to execute Shiites? You think if the Dems had voiced no criticism things would have been fine? I've got news for you, a bunch of scaredy cat dems voted for this war, and that didn't make it go well. I don't think democrats have much of anything to do with the morass of Iraq. The problem is that the planning was poor, and the idea of the war itself was a loser. You can't lay that off on the Dems. The Dems ONLY crime (imo) was being stampeded by 9/11 (and Bush) to vote for a war that had nothing to do with terrorism (although now of course, it's a lovely breeding ground, apparently).
I know fearless leader likes to give the "If you're not with me, you're helping the enemy" speeches, but that's just silly. We live in a democracy, and it's our duty to speak up when we see mistakes being made. Iraq is a huge sinkhole of a mistake. I understand that this probably embarrasses Mr. Bush and the people who supported him and this war. That's the way it goes with mistakes. People who make mistakes often want to find others to blame. It's a tried and true strategy. I can't say I think it's going to work in this case, but Mr. Bush can try, and I guess you can too. I'm not convinced. |
