I'm with you on some sort of UNIVERSAL compulsary national service, whether it's being in the military, picking up trash on the roadside, or sitting with terminal children in cancer hospitals. But it should include pregnant high school dropouts as well as class valdictorians with scholarships to Yale. And that those who go into the military should be volunteers only, with at least a 3 year committment. If they aren't committed to the military, they should be cleaning pigon droppings off statues.

I lived through the "draft years" during WW 'Nam. The military has no need for those problems again.
