I agree with Crichton's conclusions. They are much more reasoned and less emotional than those of the "An Inconvenient Truth."

I've been in the deep woods in Oregon, way off the roads.

I know where the northern most occurrence of sugar pine plants.usda.gov and incense cedar plants.usda.gov are. Those species are common in southern Oregon and California, but the enclaves that I know about are fading out. If I saw them in a project area I had to provide special protections.

I also know where the northern most occurrence of the northern long eared bat is and had to provide special protections for them too.

These species are waning in their northern range. To me, that's an indication that it was once WARMER there than it is now. Trees are much better at recording environmental trends that humans are because they live much longer and take notes.

I particularly like the these observations of Crichton's:

I believe people are will intentioned. But I have great respect for the corrosive influence of bias, systematic distortions of thought, the power of rationalization, the guises of self-interest, and the inevitability of unintended consequences.

I have more respect for people who change their views after acquiring new information than for those who cling to views they held thirty years ago. The world changes, Ideologues and zealots don't.
