I was feeling the same way until I began reading the postings on the Yahoo threads, which seem to me to be 90% negative on the merger -- they all seemed to blame the drop in both GG and GLG on the merger rather than the changes within the gold market itself -- a more reasonable conclusion in my opinion. In summary GG holders resent not having a vote and argue fraud (ex-chairman Robert McEwen action) of some sort , while GLG holders think of GG as an anchor holding them back.

The negativity and emotions may haunt things after the merger. My gut feeling is that the deal will proceed with GG holders voicing post-merger complaints.

Thanks for the reassurance that I had not overlooked something. I think we will be facing some very uncertain geopolitical problems and the combo seems less susceptible to some circumstances that may arise.
