I assume that by "accepting their premises" you don't mean, "yes, I know they're barking mad but that's barking mad for you."

Terrorism is a tactic in a zero-sum game. Zero-sum games don't make any sense in a country that's been multi-cultural for thousands of years.

Zero-sum games do make sense in an existential context, where the outcome really is strictly binary.
