Despite his unpopularity, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) remains well ahead of challenger Judy Baar Topinka (R) in the state’s gubernatorial race, according to a new Chicago Tribune poll. Blagojevich currently leads 43% to 29%. Rich Whitney (G) receives 9%.
In Virginia, Allen Locked in Close Race
Sen. George Allen (R-VA) is locked in a virtual tie with challenger Jim Webb (D), according to a new Washington Post poll. Allen currently leads by two points, 49% to 47%, well within the poll’s margin of error.
"With few respondents saying they are undecided and most seemingly locked in for their candidate, the poll indicates that the candidates' strategies for turning out supporters will be vital and that changes in the national political climate could tilt the outcome."
In Michigan, Granholm Gets Traction
In Michigan's gubernatorial race, Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) has opened an 8-point lead on rival Dick DeVos (R), 49% to 41%, according to a Detroit Free Press poll." |
