They fail at ballroom/latin/swing for mental reasons, no physical. They feel like they are making a fool of themselves on the dancefloor.

I'm sure you are right about that, and that's probably my problem. Desire to do well probably enters in, and I probably didn't have it.

I don't know about 'easily' but I can do basic square dancing pretty well and enjoy it much more than advanced. One downside of square dancing is the square is at the mercy of every couple in it, and if they are not evenly matched it gets chaotic fast. Fortunately, most dancers are nice about it. The only time it gets nasty is if some incompetent dancer starts bossing the others around. I recall only one woman who did that.

I was able to do more advanced square dancing if I was in a square where everybody had the calls down pat. If something went awry, I didn't know enough to straighten it out.
