FACT SHEET--21 Reasons NOT to Vote for Murtha
1. Murtha wants to "Cut and Run" from Iraq - as he's recommended before. This puts politics OVER what is best for the military. It is weak, and it hurts the military that exists to protect us. In the past, as with Vietnam, this mentality has proven deadly for Americans:
Osama bin Laden cites the "Cut and Run" from Somalia (1993) as the main reason he believed al Qaida could strike the U.S. with impunity. Cut and Run is wrong now anywhere for the same reasons.
2. Murtha undermines our troops during warfare with his "public" statements that have only benefited the enemy.
3. Murtha aligns with & accepts awards from radical, anti-military, soldiers-harassing Marxist organizations including “Code Pink” and “MFSO”.
4. Murtha stonewalls constituents who are Iraq War veterans.
5. Murtha called Marines “cold blooded murderers” prior to completion of an investigation when they hadn’t even been charged with anything.
6. Murtha says he would not join the military today, nor should others. Then who's to defend us against our enemies? Whose benefit is that? Then he turns around and for his own political benefit nominates and appoints our young men and women to the service academies!
7. Murtha voted to re-institute the draft.
8. Murtha said “it doesn't matter if PA's overseas service members vote”, he refused to help. Why are they disenfranchised? It happened before in Florida with Rendell's help - if they can - it will happen here.
9. Murtha admitted he "mis-spoke" about military recruitment not meeting their goals.
10. Murtha refuses to sponsor the “Stolen Valor Bill” which exposes phony war heroes.
11. Murtha himself questioned his own military medals. He has refused to release his military records for 32 years.
12. Murtha repeatedly slips Congressional pay and honoraria increases into bills:
Since 1995, John Murtha has voted 11 straight times in favor of raising his own pay. Removal is long overdue.
13. Murtha voted against securing our borders.
14. Murtha voted against protecting the Pledge of Allegiance.
15. Murtha gutted and weakened our military greatly as Chairman of the Defense Committee under Clinton.
16. Murtha loots the Defense Budget for non-military spending Earmarks. Earmarking is a practice by which funds are diverted from the “Intent of the Bill” and given to a favorite business, organization, or other groups who are often large campaign contributors to that Congressman or Senator. The Congressman/Senator doesn’t even have to sign his/her name to the “Earmark”!
17. Murtha's blatant cronyism shoveled millions of Defense $s to his brother, close friends, colleagues:
$20 million to his brother, Kit Murtha, in 2004
Millions to Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's nephew
Millions to Democrat Rep. Paul Kanjorski's kids
18. Murtha is the top beneficiary of defense campaign donations (see above).
19. Murtha pushed for premature 2003 deployment of the Stryker vehicle to Iraq without proper testing, resulting in the needless deaths of soldiers.
20. If he is voted back in at age 74 and promptly falls into ill health or dies, a special election will have to be called and you’ll be back to square one.
21. And what about ABSCAM, Jack? UN-indicted co-conspirator - who testified against other Congressmen who were indicted? They went to prison. Is there a pattern here? An Investigation? Murtha says his disclosures have never been questioned or reviewed? Maybe it’s time! And now he changes his story? Hmmmmm.
