Isn't it amazing how many variations of spelling of family names there are...? I have one family line that has -ell for 3 generations, then the next 3 spell the name with an -ale ending, then the 7th generation forward to present spells it with the -ell again. Very large family group, with the descendents of earlier lines (not my direct) but the offshoots spelling the name at will for several generations. And yet, when one explores all of that, we are all related.
