That's correct. DMA did not accurately recite the definition used by the study. You caught him.

Once you read the study, you find it says 22% of the population: had at least one drink per day every day during the last month, or had five or more drinks on at least one day per month.

Less than 6% of the population used five or more drinks per day for five days or more per month. This is defined as heavy use. Something I suspect DMA would define as a social drinker.

DMA thinks most people have abused alcohol.

But the reality is that only a small percentage of the population has abused alcohol. It is not normal or typical to be an alcoholic. Alcoholics have a serious problem, even when sober. Their personalities are different from normal people.

Their behavior is self-centered, grandiose, dishonest, short-tempered and belligerent. They frequently lie, even about things which don't matter and even when telling the truth would be more beneficial. That's not what most people are like, but that's an alcoholic, even while sober.
