There was a lot of waiting because of the Rhine river, one of major tactic, difficult obstacles. That is even one of the most famous, mythical aspects of the end of the WW2, as one can read from Wikipedia. Patton is also mentioned there.
Anyone who has been in the army, especially in actual war knows that there is a lot of waiting, for supplies, for intelligence, for tactcial, strategic reasons, etc,etc..
Note once again , I wrote "simplistic" (and "propaganda")
"the United Nations won WWII" that is a fairly well known, maybe "urban (USA) legend", usually used to point out the limited and low level of history books for schools in USA (Wikipedia is luckily changing that really fast)
The closest one gets today is that Bush attacked the wrong country, two times.
That is, there is also some double-coded truth in "the United Nations won WWII" when looking at how UN was founded. |
