I'll go beyond that and say not only does he not mean to be mean spirited, politically inspired, or slanderous, but that his mention of his alcohol use is indeed not any of those things.

But that hardly means that the argument that Bush is irrational, exceptionally dishonest, and/or unusually self centered, because of his previously uncontrolled, or currently (long term) controlled addiction to alcohol is not "mean spirited, politically inspired or slanderous".
