I tend not to believe in conspiracy theories, but Bush has taken cronyism to an unprecedented level. So I wouldn't put anything past him and Cheney, especially Cheney. Bush seems too incompetent to put a great conspiracy together, but Cheney is very competent, if a bit malign. So I would bet much of the trouble we see emanating from this administration are Cheney's brainchildren.

FYI, have you seen Syriana? 4 years ago, I would have said "Bah, typical Hollywood B.S. and tinhat material." Today, I bet that Syriana nailed it dead on. There are connections between this country and the Middle East that would shock all of us into realizing that we really are our own worst enemy. We fight the terrorists with one hand and fund them with our other. You said the Saudis are worse than 100 Saddam's in their financing of terrorists. I say that the Saudi regime is a child of this countries oil addiction. Get us off the oil and the Saudi regime won't have any extra funds to give away to "charity" organizations that are covers for terrorists.

So I don't spend alot of time blaming the Middle Eastern Muslims for being backward, anti-civilization, and terrorists. Rather, I blame this country's citizens for being idiots to continue to consume as much oil as we do and doing nothing to unseat the oil companies and car manufacturers, and their lobbyists, who make it impossible to have substantive change in the direction of oil independence.

We are our own worst enemy. If this country falls, it will be because of our unwillingness to act, not because some other country was stronger.
