This has been one weird week in football. I thought I would assuage my need for a sense of victory by watching my local NFL team last night, the Chicago Bears, who are having a Cinderella season.

They melted down worse than the Hokies did in their last two games. I thought it was time for resignation and rationalizing. Then the defense made the most amazing comeback in history by scoring unanswered three touchdowns on three stunning plays.

How can a team look so lousy (in preseason), then so good in their first four regular season games, and then suddenly look like the preseason team - with the same personnel, coaches, strategy, etc?

You are never as good as you think you are when you win, nor as bad as you think you are when you lose. --who said that?

And the other case of disappointing football was the Miami - FIU brawl. Don Strock was a shining exception to the three yards and a cloud of dust football during my college days. Seeing him apologizing made me realize coaches have their hands full these days developing young people into good players.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Va Tech football to come together in a positive way

Of course, there is always next year. Heheh.
