I boycotted Venezuela last year when I went to South America. Skipped it. I had previously planned to visit the country. That said, Chavez would be much less of a menace and insult to the US if we had a more honest administration in power. There is no reason to make Chavez such an enemy. So he's leftist, big deal. So is the president of Brazil and many others and we get along with them. And the big scare about the Sandinistas turned out to be phony too. They have been no threat to us whatsoever.

The trouble with Chavez started when big Texas oil companies were forced to pay more for Venezuelan oil. Like in Libya (the phony disarmament of Gaddafi) this is all about oil deals. Bushies care more about oil deals than any of our concerns as a nation, including national defense.
