We humans share 98-99% or so of our dna with chimps. We may share more dna with them than they share with gorillas or other apes. Yet, there is an extremely wide gap between us and them in intellectual abilities. I think we have a lot more intelligence than we need to be hunter-gatherer apes. Those committed to naturalistic explanations will have to insist the changes occurred for naturalistic reasons because how could they say otherwise and remain non-religious.

For those who don't believe in a God who designed in His own image, it IS harder to accept things like "He gave us an enjoyment of music" which feel like facile explanations, than it is to look for rational naturalistic reasons.

I have no problem with rational naturalistic reasoning, as long as it is actually rational and not simply presumed rational because its naturalistic.

It seems to me non-believers are as invested personally and emotionally in their beliefs (or non-beliefs) as anyone else. Perhaps more so.
