I don't think so. (1) All indications are that great many people supported the WWII effort and there is no reason to believe the public would not have parted with their money when so many were willing to part with life and limb (2) How do you justify your (or the government's) claim to my money? It is my money and I should be able to say what should and should not be done with it. Now realistically, there is a balance between how fine a control the public may have over their funds and the amount of time and expenses it takes to specify that. So for example I don't think the public should have a say on specifying which military equipment their taxes should be used on. But I think in large blocks, it is both practical and fitting to decide how big of a military we should have and/or whether or not we should be at war. ST
