Until you start seeing people you know die, because the system is so overloaded that no one gets proper care, you will not understand. The tenant in my house had 2 years of medical care, he was at the doctor's every couple of weeks, he died of cancer because they failed to diagnose the problem. He needed treatment but didn't get it. he was treated for 2 years and for the first 18 months they didn't properly diagnose him. It takes time to get an MRI, we don't have the technicians to run them, lots of times you wait 7 or 8 hours for an X-ray, they have to call in a technician, they don't keep the hospitals fully staffed, because there is no money. Every hospital has closed floors, we cannot afford to keep them open.
It happens every day in Canada. Canada tossed most of the people who had mental problems out on the streets, many are now homeless, but it reduced the cost of health care. You seem to think that people who are sick in Canada all get fabulous health care. They don't. Everyone has access, but in Ontario we are short HUNDREDS of doctors. No one wants to work here. Last week emergency care was put into the hands of a private company, no one wants to work in emergency care any more. There are too many patients for the system, and it is falling apart.
People get infections in the hospitals because they are dirty, there are not enough workers to keep the place clean. We cannot get the newest treatments in a timely fashion, they cost too much so the health board doesn't approve them.
Yes Canada has health care, I had to literally threaten a hospital administrator with a lawsuit before i got reasonable treatment for one of my friends. At one point my friend Christine needed to go to the toilet, and i told the nurse who simply told me she was too busy, when i threatened to unplug her computer, she got up and helped my dying friend to the toilet. That is the state of health care in Canada. Take off your rose coloured socialist glasses, health care here is on the verge of collapse. Soon it will be one half of the provincial budget. And it isn't good health care it is simply passable. And the poorest people still get only "emergency' health care. Many Doctors are now charging a fee to keep patients on their client list, can't pay the fee, no doctor. We still pay for our own glasses and prescriptions, so you if you see a doctor, but you still need a lot of money for medicine. |
