>> I don't think we should give the government more than enough to defend the country from attack, to defend our allies, and to build roads, schools and other necessary infrastructure.
This line of thinking leads to the mess we already have. I don't believe in defending our "allies" in Saudi, Kuwait, Kosovo, South Korea, etc. And most likely your concept of "enough" and mine are different. The proper way to solve this is break down the taxes into say no more than a dozen large categories e.g. education, healthcare, military, internal security (i.e police, FBI, etc), and so on. The government should specify on your tax form what percentage of your taxes are going to each item. Then the people decide if they wish to contribute that particular segment (and how much) or if their equivalent funds should be spent at a different item. Ideally, there will also be some equivalent organizations that I could contribute to instead of the government. For example perhaps I'd like to redirect some of my taxes to our neighborhood watchdog organization (assuming they qualify as a tax-credit organization).
I agree with the rest of your post below:
>> I believe All buildings should be taxed at the same rate including churches, and I believe that all taxes should be consumption taxes. I also don't believe in estate taxes, capital gains taxes, or any of the way governments steal from us. I don't believe any politician who does not work full time should be paid either. Nor do I think that politicians deserve pensions at taxpayer expense. |
