A criminal can avoid punishment for his crime via suicide at any time in the process--anywhere from suicide by cop to suicide during the appeal. I don't see why suicide during the appeal would be treated differently than suicide while out on bail awaiting trial, for example. That's not very satisfying, I realize, but I can't draw a bright line there. Can you?
