[WSTL & BT]
<< What does this mean specifically for Westell? No possibility of a contract from BT, or no imminent announcement of one, or both? >>
neither. first off, i'm pretty sure BT never intended to have a direct contract with WSTL. the contract would be with Alcatel and/or Fujitsu, who will lease ADSL equipment to BT. with BT now describing the next phase of their ADSL porgram as "a trial", it suggests that the total number of lines involved is pretty small, and therefore the equipment revenues will be small too. Bad news for WSTL shareholders if this is one of the "three significant signed contracts".
also, now that BT appears to be devoting 1998 to more trials, Alcatel (with AMTX) and Fujitsu (with ORCTF) will have enough time to get their DMT ducks in a row. when BT is ready for major deployment, i doubt either company will be reselling WSTL. Siemens will also be up to speed by then too. I doubt WSTL's ability to compete for BT's business against these three gaints.
re: AMTX up today... i doubt it's the BT news. might have something to do with Bell Canada, or the MCI conference call on Monday, or something completely off radar.
