Wow... took me 6 months to learn and 20 years to quit... I ended up being a very heavy smoker.. near the end of university I'd blow through 2 pouches of roll your own in 3 days, quicker on weekends... no filters of course.. hand rolled.. I quit cold turkey, maybe a hundred times... LOL, used lifesign gizmo, patches, gum... etc etc nothing worked... Then one day driving home 13 years and 5 months ago (I quit when my daughter was 7 months old and she turned 14 yesterday) I flipped down the sun visor in my car at a red light... the pack was empty... it was Sunday and most stores were closed in the part of town I was in ... then just like the the old Indian and the today is a good day to die line I thought... today is a good day to quit... and I did.. I wasn't even entertaining the idea at the time... month 3 was a bitch... month 6 was a bitch... year one was very hard... resisting the maybe I can have just one thought... I was truly addicted... no lowly habit here.. In my youth I tried a lot of experimenting... and there was nothing I couldn't just walk away from... except tobacco... maybe ... just maybe I could have one now and walk away... but I'm not willing to take that bet, period :o) I never became a raving anti smoker... still not.. but I admit that for a time around year five I was a little smug that I had succeeded with no aids... but that's bullshit.. if you are ready ... you are ready... and if you need help for a while... take it.. the end justifies the means... Al
